The Commonwealth comprises 56 independent countries from across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific. With 2.5 billion citizens living in Commonwealth countries, more than 60% are aged under 29, representing more than 1.5 billion young people.
The Street Soccer Foundation is very proud to be at the heart of ‘Football For Good’ and with the endorsement from The Commonwealth in its collective support of the Year of Youth and young people worldwide, the Football For Good movement invites global partnerships from across all 56 nations to come together to showcase how the global no.1 sport is being used as a true force for good.
'Football For Good' is a global brand and football-led movement attached to the International Football For Good Day - with a worldwide agenda aimed at showcasing how the power of football brings people together. How football can champion peace, equality, diversity and inclusion.
How it can unite communities all over the world. And how it can inspire, educate and empower others to make a positive change – both for themselves and their communities.
The International Football For Good Day was created by Keith Mabbutt and formally launched as a new global campaign endeavour on Sunday 19th November 2023.
The Football For Good Day is now an annual day of celebration and global amplification of football-led programmes and activities taking place over 24 hours across the Commonwealth and world as a whole, in celebration of how the global no.1 sport is being used as a force for good.
In the UK, the Football For Good initiative is honoured to have the support from the Royal Family, as well as the Prime Minster and The Mayor of London, along with other valued key partners, and represents a national celebration of youth leadership, education, development and empowerment work delivered throughout the year.
The work of the Street Soccer Foundation, as the founding member organisation of the initiative, is just one such example of how the power of football is being used to help others - with its Street Soccer Academy programme delivered in partnership with several professional football club community organisations nationwide.
The Football For Good Day in the UK in 2023 also saw the first-ever London Stadium Sleepout event staged, which gave individuals from across the City of London the chance to show their support in tackling youth homelessness through the power of football, by sleeping outdoors on the North Deck inside the Stadium, for a night that will never be forgotten.
Another Sleepout event is planned for the Football For Good Day in November 2024. Details on how to get involved will be released in due course.
